Should You Have Several Short Breaks Or One Big Holiday?

Is it better to have less of more or more of less?

This mind-bending conundrum is at the forefront of many people’s minds as their holiday allowance resets and they start looking into booking studio flats and accommodation to make their getaways.

Whilst looking through different places to spend their time off, there is always one big question to consider; is it better to take several short breaks over the course of the year or save your time off for one big holiday?

The short answer is that there isn’t one; some people prefer taking a few city breaks over a year whilst others need a significant period away from work to unwind and properly disconnect.

On the one hand, having multiple long weekend breaks means several chances to disconnect from work, see somewhere new and make some exciting memories which will help to thwart the effects of burnout, improve happiness and come back to work with a fresh mind.

At the same time, it is not always enough time to truly disconnect, especially if you work a stressful job or are the type of person who needs a day or two to properly get into the holiday spirit or get back into gear for work on the other side of a holiday.

As well as this, if you do not like the planning process, doing it four times a year rather than once or twice might not be the most appealing idea.

Conversely, a long break away means plenty of time to focus on making the biggest and best possible memories and lets you focus your energy on having the best time possible as disconnected and intentionally relaxed as possible.

At the same time, however, it can mean long stretches of time where you are waiting for your holiday, and some serious holiday blues once it is over.

Perhaps there is a happy medium; rather than two weeks away, try two weekend breaks and a week-long holiday somewhere exotic.
